Jack Clarkson and Adam Stone were part of the successful Red Rose side that beat Northumberland 12.5-5.5 to keep alive their hopes of a third successive Daily Telegraph Northern Counties League title.

At one stage the outcome was in the balance as the visitors, a point down after the foursomes, gained the ascendancy early in the singles by winning two of the opening three matches.

Stone and Clarkson, both on golf scholarships in America, won their foursomes matches partnering Richie Blundell, from Hillside Golf Club, and Ciaran Doherty, Bury, respectively before also triumphing in the singles.

Clarkson beat Russell Hayhoe, Ponteland, 5&4, while Stone saw off Mark Wharton, Newcastle United, by a single hole.

There were also comprehensive victories for newly-crowned county champion Ian Kenwright and Sean Blinkhorn, who both prevailed 6&5.
