Golf: Morecambe club members raise money for charity

Morecambe Golf Cub members have helped raise more than £7,000 for the Galloway's Society for the Blind and on Saturday evening a cheque was handed over by the captain Jim Heap and Lady Captain Jacqui Dixon.

They chose Galloway’s as their charity of the year and during the past 12 months a number of fund raisers have helped boost the total.

One effort by vice captain elect, John McGinley, brought in more than £700 in sponsorship after he shaved his head for the charitable cause.

Jim Heap said: “As ever the good members of Morecambe have risen to the occasion and helped us raise a fabulous amount.

And Jacqui Dixon added: “Before we took on our roles, Jim and I agreed that Galloway’s would be our charity for the year we were in office. It was a good choice and everybody at the club have shown their support and their generosity”.

Galloway’s has a long and proud history of serving blind and partially sighted people and has newly established centre in Victory Street, Morecambe.
