Morecambe’s unbeaten heavyweight boxing sensation Tyson Fury was amongst the packed crowd at the Trimpell Club’s first-ever boxing show.

The Lancaster Boxing Academy event on Thursday night saw a host of excellent performances from district fighters.

Debutant Jimmy Mason opened the card and saw his hand raised in victory over Jennings Community Boxing Academy’s Callum Bailey.

His elder brother William was next up and he defeated Liam Robson of Carlisle Villa ABC.

Lancaster’s William Birchall then defeated Carlisle fighter, Harrison Boak, on debut.

Thomas Varey was up next against Jonjo Scott from Bredbury Stockport Boxing Club and Scott took two standing counts as Varey had his hand raised.

Newly-crowned English Schoolboy Champion Levi Smith took on Scottish champion Harys Lowe from Kilmarnock’s Northwest ABC with Smith the unanimous victory.

Troy Gallagher then lost a majority decision to Louis Bates of Halifax ABC. John Paul Varey showed great maturity in his first fight to beat Mason Timney of Maryport ABC.

Ben Morrell got back to winning ways stopping Bredbury Stockport Boxing Club’s Niall Johnson with a devastating display of power.

Josh Fisher then lost a controversial decision to Tomas Rafferty from Manchester’s famous Northside ABC. It was then upto new recruit Bob Rowntree to close the night against the bigger, more experienced Mohammed Asghar from Blackburn ABC.

Bob felled his southpaw opponent in the final round, the Blackburn fighter finishing with a badly-damaged eye as Lancaster Boxing Academy ended the night with another win.

Lancaster Boxing Academy’s star pupil Isaac Lowe returns to the ring in Blackpool next month.
