Neither side had created a chance until Burnley scored in the 13th minute when Jonathan Hodgkinson swept the ball out to Wood with the striker cutting inside before hitting an unstoppable drive into the top corner of Jim Brindle’s net.

Brindle had to be quick off his line later in the half to block Wood’s shot and prevent goal number two.

In the final minute of the first-half Garstang’s Andy Taylor headed against the near post from a Dave Jack throw-in.

The visitors were undone however in the 46th minute when Wood ran through from what looked like an offside position to crash home a second.

Luck seemed to have deserted Garstang when Gary Fawcett appeared to be brought down in the box only for a free-kick to be awarded outside the penalty area.

Balls rained into the Burnley box but Garstang were unable to find a way through, Conor Crossley seeing a late effort tipped over the bar.

Slyne-with-Hest’s game at home to Fleetwood Hesketh was postponed.

On Saturday Garstang host Hesketh Bank while Slyne welcome Longridge Town.
