Trevor Sinclair can’t wait to face former club Blackpool in Lancaster’s first friendly

The Dolly Blues assistant boss is a Seasiders legend having started his career at Bloomfield Road and is looking forward to getting reacquainted with what City hope will be a healthy away following at Giant Axe.

From 1989 to 1993 Sinclair made 112 appearances for Pool scoring 15 goals and on his return to the country from Dubai last year he made the Fylde coast his home again.

Sinclair said: “They’re a big club so hopefully there will be a lot there.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the Blackpool fans because I haven’t seen them in a while.

“It was my first club but it’s not just the football club.

“My wife is a Blackpool girl and I went back there when I came back from Dubai, the whole area is very special to me.”

It has been a torrid time for the Seasiders over the last couple of years, with the club recently in the Premier League set to start life in League 1 under new boss Neil McDonald come August.

The final home game of last season marked a real low point in the war between the fans and owner Karl Oyston, with a pitch invasion seeing their game against Huddersfield abandoned.

Sinclair said: “The fans’ biggest complaint is that a lot of money came into the club from the Premier League and they feel it should be reinvested into the playing staff and the training facilities.

“That hasn’t happened though and I can’t really see a conclusion until there is a change of ownership.”

Sinclair was asked to help try and build those bridges as part of a new fans’ parliament but pulled out.

The 42-year-old said: “I was asked to help come in and pick a panel.

“I hoped it was going to be from a wide range of fans but when we got into the nitty gritty it was just season ticket holders which with all the different supporters clubs isn’t a fair reflection of the fan base.

“So I told the club I was stepping away from it.”

Despite his affinity to Blackpool Sinclair’s focus will be on Lancaster City on Saturday and the former Queens Park Rangers and West Ham man has been impressed with what he’s seen in pre-season so far.

Sinclair said: “A lot of the work so far has been building up stamina, getting touch back and getting the team spirit going again.

“We had a match on Tuesday night and the lads looked sharp, keen, hungry, like they’d missed it really, which is always good for a coach to see.”

Given the relative size of the clubs on Saturday the Blues number two insists he and boss Darren Peacock are looking beyond the result.

Sinclair said: “It doesn’t matter what the score is.

“We want to play well and get back into good habits but this is also the time to be making mistakes.”

Kick-off at Giant Axe on Saturday is 3pm.

After the Blackpool game the Dolly Blues then host Barrow on Wednesday, July 15 at 7.45pm.
