Morecambe suffered their second away defeat of the week when they were beaten by a single goal at Plainmoor.

Danny Stevens scored the only goal of the game just before the half hour. The home striker robbed Andy Fleming of possession in midfield and ran down on goal and produced a low left-foot shot that beat Barry Roche down to his left and crawled into the net off the foot of the post.

Morecambe hit back with Lewis Alessandra going close on two occasions.

On 38 minutes he created space on the edge of the box and produced a sweet left-foot shot that forced Michael Poke into an excellent save to his right-hand side.

Two minutes later Alessandra threatened again when he found himself in a similar situation and his low shot flew inches wide of the right-hand post.

The second half saw a catalogue of chances but poor finishing at both ends with Morecambe having the majority of the possession but failing to work home 'keeper Poke.

Jordan Burrow tried his luck twice from distance and Fleming headed well wide from a good opening before Shrimps keeper Roche almost scored a shock equaliser in the 93rd minute with a header that landed on the roof of the net.

At the other end Rene Howe went close against his former club but the Shrimps were rarely troubled.
