Morecambe will look for a fourth straight win in all competitions at bottom of the table Newport County on Saturday.

Former England captain great arrived at Rodney Parade in the summer. Most of his managerial experience has come in Scotland with Motherwell, Hibernian and Inverness. Having seen changes at the top mean he is operating on a tight budget, Butcher faces a battle to keep Newport in the Football League.

Former Barnet midfielder was named club captain in August after a successful first season at Rodney Parade. The 26-year-old, who scored four goals as a near ever present last season, is seen as the heartbeat of the side in the middle of the park.


The Exiles have endured a dismal start to the season. Their only point from six League 2 games has come courtesy of a 2-2 draw at home to Stevenage. The 3-0 defeat at home to York on Saturday was the lowest day of the campaign with Butcher ready to dip into the loan market to boost a depleted squad.


Morecambe have won all four games between the sides in the Football League. Meetings usually produce goals with Shrimps posting 3-2, 4-1 and 3-2 wins. Last season at Rodney Parade The Shrimps won 1-0 with Jack Redshaw scoring the only goal back in February.
