Morecambe welcome League 2 play-off finalists Wycombe to the Globe Arena on Tuesday night.
Former Queens Park Rangers winger has overseen a remarkable revival at Adams Park. After narrowly avoiding relegation out of the Football League Ainsworth guided Wycombe to last season’s play-off final where they lost on penalties to Southend.
Wycombe’s new front man needs no introduction to Morecambe fans. Came through the ranks at Christie Park and scored the opening goal in The Shrimps’ 2007 Conference play-off final win over Exeter. After successful spells at Scunthorpe and Bradford, the 34-year-old swapped Notts County for Wycombe in the summer. Scored both goals in The Chairboys’ 2-0 win at Barnet on Saturday.
Wanderers have six points out of six so far in League 2 this season after wins over York, 3-0 on the opening day, and Barnet. Exited the League Cup with a 1-0 defeat at home to Fulham.
The Shrimps have a poor record against The Chairboys with Tuesday night’s opponents having won seven of the 12 meetings between the sides, Morecambe winning just one. Last year’s game at the Globe Arena ended in a 3-1 win for Wycombe back in October.
