THE Visitor won the top prize at Morecambe FC’s Gala Draw on Saturday night.
We were pulled out of the hat first by guest of honour Jim Bentley and as a result The Visitor logo will be on the back of Morecambe FC’s shirts next season.
Group editor Steve Brauner said: “I am absolutely delighted that The Visitor will be on Morecambe FC’s shirts next season.
“We are looking forward to the first season with Jim Bentley in charge with massive anticipation.”
More than 200 people from various businesses across the district attended the black tie event in the Wright & Lord suite at the Globe Arena.
Other winners on the night included Queensway Publishing, who will be on the back of the shorts.
In a speech, Shrimps chairman Peter McGuigan reiterated his desire to get 400 more fans down to the Globe Arena for every home game.
At a recent fans’ forum McGuigan said he wanted to boost the club’s average attendance to 2,700.
He also said he hoped that a full pre-season at the Globe Arena would set the club up for a more successful season on the field.
The Shrimps finished a disappointing 20th in League 2 after the late arrival into their new Globe Arena home meant they did not have a full pre-season.
The chairman said that, despite the new-found optimism generated by Jim Bentley’s appointment, it was inevitable there would be low points on the field during the season and that it was important the fans got behind the team at that point more than ever.
He also thanked all the businesses in attendance.
