The Shrimps’ substitute scored with a fine header from Jamie Devitt’s 85th minute corner to level the scores after Simon Walton had given the home side the lead with a 62nd minute penalty after Mark Hughes’s rash challenge on David McAllister.

Morecambe had the better of a scrappy first half and created the better chances.

Jack Redshaw was quickly in the thick of the action when he weaved his way into the area and forced an excellent low save from home keeper Chris Day.

Redshaw then had to leave the field with a back injury and his replacement Amond was presented with a chance moments later when he was put through by Paul Mullin but was again denied by an excellent block from Day.

The home keeper had to be at his best again to block at the feet of Mullin who was causing the home side plenty of problems.

The young striker had an excellent chance top open the scoring moments later but saw his shot from Ryan Williams’s pull back cleared off the line by Ronnie Henry.

Stevenage failed to threaten the Morecambe goal until the 42nd minute when wide man Ronnie Deacon cut in from the left and drilled a low shot inches wide of Scott Davies’ right hand post.

The goals came after the break with Amond’s header ensuring the Shrimps headed north with a League 2 point in the bag.
