Former Shrimps striker Lewis Alessandra scored twice to give Plymouth a convincing victory over Morecambe.
The Shrimps had another poor start and went a goal down after just five minutes.
Matt Parsons cut in from the left-hand side and produced a fine right foot shot that was saved by Barry Roche but the ball fell perfectly for Durrell Berry who coolly finished past the Morecambe ‘keeper from eight yards.
Plymouth went close to a second two minutes later when Curtis Nelson headed over from Luke Young’s cross before Morecambe produced some threatening moments of their own with Alex Kenyon firing straight at Jake Cole from the edge of the area and the same player testing the ‘home keeper with a flicked header.
The Shrimps’ dominance was short lived however when the home side added a second on 39 minutes.
Shaun Beeley was robbed of possession on the halfway line and the ball was fed through to former Shrimp Alessandra who produced a smart finish to beat the stranded Roche.
Jack Sampson missed an early second half chance for the Shrimps and Plymouth hit back with Roche saving superbly from Tyler Harvey and Connor Hourihane before Nelson scored with a free header from Young’s right-wing corner.
The Shrimps’ misery was compounded when Andres Gurrieri scored a fourth for the home side on 87 minutes when he got the finishing touch to a Tyler cross.
And to make matters worse Alessandra scored a fifth in injury time when he was left in acres of space in the box to curl a right foot shot past the helpless Roche.
