Six of the best as Caton start title defence in style

Caton United made a fine start to the defence of their Baines Bagguley Penhale North Lancashire and District Premier Division title on Saturday.

The reigning champions were 6-0 winners at Marsh United with Nathan Jackson and Guy Spence both scoring twice and Mambwe Chilufya and Liam Jeffreys also on target.

Elsewhere Carnforth Rangers were 2-1 winners at home to Cartmel and District with Kyle Davies and Cameron Holmes scoring for the hosts and Chris Airey on target for the Cumbrians.

Lancaster Rovers won 5-2 at Bentham with Ben McGrath on netting twice for Rovers.

Dan Broadley, of Highgrove, and Aaron Woodhouse, of Ingleton both bagged braces as the sides drew 2-2.

Bowerham won 2-0 at Mayfield United with Galgate picking up a 3-2 win at Storeys.

In Division One Westgate Wanderers, Boys Club, Freehold and Cartmel Reserves have all won two out of two.

The second round of fixtures was due to take place on Wednesday night with Caton travelling to Ingleton, Carnforth hosting Lancaster Rovers and Galgate’s clash with Bowerham amongst the games.
