MORECAMBE made it four successive league victories with an excellent performance at Sixfields.

Two first half goals gave Jim Bentley’s side their first ever victory over the Cobblers.

Phil Jevons fired Morecambe into the lead on 15 minutes with an excellent finish from Gary McDonald’s right wing cross.

It was 2-0 10 minutes later from a Morecambe penalty. Izak Reid’s cross was handled and Laurence Wilson slotted home the spot kick past Sam Walker.

The second half saw Northampton press with Michael Jacobs forcing Barry Roche into an early save and John Johnson wasting two glorious chances by heading over from close range.

After the pressure Morecambe hit back and could have added to their lead. Gary McDonald flashed an effort inches wide and Kevin Ellison also went close as the Shrimps produced another fine win.

Bentley named the same side that beat Aldershot last Saturday with four changes from the midweek defeat at Millwall.
