THE SHRIMPS are stepping up their search for future talent by opening four development centres across the region.
Trials for the first centre, in Morecambe start this Friday, with other centres in Preston, Liverpool and Manchester set to open shortly.
Plans for a centre of excellence are also being studied as the Shrimps aim to cast the net far and wide to sign up top new talent for the future.
Boss Jim Bentley said he was excited by the plans.
He said: “This is a major development for us.
“Clubs like ours have to make steps to develop our own talent and this scheme will definitely make us stronger in years to come.
“The standard of coaching will be first class and if we can get a steady stream of young players coming through, the club will benefit and be stronger.
“Some very good young players do slip the net of the bigger clubs and we hope that through this development we can pick up some of those players and give them another chance of having a career in the game. We all know that some players may develop later and this scheme will help them as well.”
