Morecambe are closing in on bringing a new forward to the Globe Arena.

It has been a difficult week on the transfer front for boss Jim Bentley after missing out on Burnley striker Wes Fletcher and seeing Lewis Alessandra leave for Plymouth.

But the Shrimps hope to announce their new attacking arrival in the next day or two.

Without wanting to name names, Bentley told The Visitor he thought his new man would be a good fit for the Shrimps.

He said: “It’s not quite done but it should all be sorted in the next couple of days.

“He knows all about League 2 and is a good age.

“He’s got a lot of potential and I think he’ll do well for us.”

The Shrimps found out on Monday they will host Wolves in the first round of the Capital One Cup in the week commencing August 5.

Bentley said: “It’s a good draw for us. We’ve done well in the League Cup over the last couple of years.

“They are a big club and have been relegated but have a new manager in charge (Kenny Jackett).

“It’s a big game and one we can look forward to but we’ll have a game on the Saturday to focus on before that.”

After away ties in the last couple of seasons Bentley is pleased it is a home draw this time around.

He said: “We’ve had Barnsley and Blackpool, then Millwall and Sunderland, so it’s nice to get a home draw.

“They’ll hopefully bring plenty of fans.”

The League 2 fixtures are released on Wednesday, ahead of the Morecambe players returning for pre-season training next Tuesday, June 25.
