Shaun Miller: Crawley point can give us something to build on
Shaun Miller hopes his late leveller at Crawley can give Morecambe something to build on.
The striker returned from suspension with a 13th goal of the season seven minutes from time as The Shrimps ended a run of five straight defeats with a 1-1 draw at the Broadfield Stadium.
Jim Bentley’s side had fallen behind to Matt Harrold’s strike early in the second period but battled back to ensure a physical contest ended with honours even.
Miller said: “We didn’t deserve to go behind.
“We’ve just got to keep going which is what we’ve been doing during this run.
“The spirit’s been good for the last seven or eight games surprisingly enough.
“The results look bad but the performances haven’t been.
“To finally get something and stop those run of defeats it’s nice, and hopefully we can put a run together now and pick up some points.”
Having played reasonably well without reward in recent weeks, Miller was pleased that The Shrimps got a deserved point even if the winless League 2 runs stretched to 10 games.
He said: “It’s gone like a lot of the other games previously.
“It was very even and we maybe shaded it, certainly first half, but they got the goal and you think ‘here we go again’.
“But we managed to pull it back and looked like we might go on and nick it.
“We’ve got a point so we’ve got to be pleased with that.
“It ends a run of quite a few consecutive defeats and it’s nice that we’ve got what we’ve deserved.”
The front man had been forced to watch the previous three games from the stands after his red card against Oxford and was pleased to be back with a bang.
Now Miller hopes to continue that form when The Shrimps host AFC Wimbledon at the Globe Arena on Saturday.
He said: “It’s always nice to score a goal, especially when it means something, and it’s got us a point.
“There’s not a lot you can do (about the red card).
“I thought the red card was unlucky in the first place but you’ve just got to take it on the chin and look to try and make up for it when you come back into the team.
“Hopefully I’ve done that with the point and hopefully I can now go on and bang a few more in.”
