IN the 848-848 Taxis/Sam Price Memorial Cup first round, Marsh United were involved in a good game of open football with Morecambe Royals.

The Royals should have scored in the first five minutes but after a superb cross by Dan Broadley from the right wing, the centre forward had the easiest of tasks to head into the net from three yards out, but the header went wide.

In their first attack of the game after just eight minutes Marsh almost scored when a Liam Parkinson goal-bound shot was deflected onto a post for a corner.

The Royals had to wait until the 18th minute before taking the lead, a superb defence splitting pass from Carl Manning saw Broadley beat the offside trap to score with ease.

In the 35th minute Marsh equalised after a brilliant spell of excellent football from inside their own half, ending with Liam Steele shooting past Liam Wilkinson after Parkinson’s slide rule pass into the area.

Within two minutes Marsh took a 2-1 lead when Steele scored his second.

The Royals just could not force the ball into the net and will be ruing the chances missed early in the game as Marsh hung on for a 2-1 win and a home game against Carnforth in the next round.
