NEW Morecambe FC manager Jim Bentley and his assistant, Ken McKenna were the special guests at the Ripley Sports Presentation Evening last week.
The former Shrimps captain along with former TNS and Altrincham manager McKenna were warmly welcomed by an enthusiastic audience who were motivated and inspired by the new manager’s post ceremony speech in which he recalled his sporting schooldays and spoke of using the enjoyment gained from sport as a great way to maintain a healthy active lifestyle beyond school.
With more than 300 appearances for Morecambe as a player during eight seasons at the club, Jim also had a captive audience when encouraging them to follow their sporting dreams and about the exciting challenge of leading Morecambe through the next phase of their history.
One hundred and twenty certificates and medals were awarded for the most improved player, the players’ player and the player of the season in sports from mainstream curriculum activities such as rugby, football, netball and hockey to water polo and golf, while the Year 10 Girls swimming team won the Team of the Year having won every race in the Inter Schools Championships for the past four years.
