The Shrimps travel to the Shrimpers on Saturday as Morecambe look to maintain their unbeaten League 2 record against Southend United.
Colourful former Hull and Preston boss continues to rebuild his career at Roots Hall. After losing in the play-off semi-final to Burton in his first full season in charge Brown will be confident his side can reach League 1 this time around.
Former Shrimps loanee has found a home at Southend having joined from Walsall in the summer of 2012. Goalscoring winger signed a new two-year deal in February and scored 12 goals in all competitions last season.
Shrimpers are fourth in League 2 having won their last four games. On-loan Spurs striker Shaq Coulthirst got the only goal in their 1-0 win over another fancied side, Shrewsbury on Saturday.
Historically Morecambe enjoy playing against Southend and are unbeaten against them in the Football League. Shrimps have won seven and drawn one of the eight League 2 meetings but Southend did record a first ever win over Jim Bentley’s side in the FA Cup last November. Phil Brown’s side were emphatic 3-0 winners at the Globe Arena in last year’s third round.
