Morecambe host Southend on Saturday looking to halt the Shrimpers’ promotion charge and keep up their unbeaten league record against Phil Brown’s side.
Colourful former Hull City boss arrived at Roots Hall in March 2013. After missing out in the play-offs last season will be desperate for his side to seal automatic promotion at the Globe Arena. Was recently linked with the vacant managerial post at Portsmouth, refusing to comment on speculation.
Like his manager, the 21-year-old stopper has been linked with a move away from Southend this season having come through the ranks at the club. Was named between the sticks in the PFA League 2 team of the year and as the Shrimpers’ Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year.
Brown’s side are on a remarkable run having won their last seven. A 0-0 draw with Cambridge prior to that also means they haven’t conceded in their last eight games. Run has seen them storm into the final automatic promotion spot with a win over the Shrimps ensuring a spot in League 1.
The Shrimps are unbeaten in League 2 against Southend in nine meetings and won 1-0 at Roots Hall in October. Only Southend win came 3-0 in last season’s FA Cup first round meeting at the Globe Arena.
