Andy Awford has left his position as manager of Portsmouth after defeat to Morecambe on Saturday.
The 3-1 reverse at the Globe Arena was the final straw for the Pompey board with the 2008 FA Cup winnners currently 14th in League 2.
According to the Portsmouth News, Pompey were planning to pull the trigger on the former defender when they mathematically couldn’t reach the play-offs.
But the board made the move with an 11-point gap to the top seven with four games remaining.
Awford looks to set to be offered another role at the club having been the club’s academy manager before replacing Richie Barker last March.
Gary Waddock and Paul Hardyman are set to take charge of Portsmouth’s game at Stevenage on Tuesday night.
