The Dolly Blues chief will take the next training session of City’s new academy at Lancaster University on Wednesday, May 27.

The Giant Axe side are one of 11 to host a new Northern Premier League (Evo-Stik) Football Academy for the 2015-16 season as the club offers a football and education programme.

City are hoping to recruit up to 20 players to take part in the scheme.

Peacock said: “We want to try and develop our own players and we feel with this new programme it provides us with an ideal opportunity to do so.

“I see it as the way forward to start a development programme at the football club, hopefully leading through to the first team.”

The former Newcastle and Blackburn defender is looking forward to putting the players through their paces on Wednesday ahead of an academy coach being appointed in time for the new season.

Peacock said: “I hope to see as many young potential students as possible attending our next session.

“We will be appointing a full-time coach of our choice to oversee the training, who will of course be in close contact with me regarding development.”

Chairman Stuart Houghton said: “We have been given an excellent opportunity to set up this exciting programme at Lancaster City and we don’t want to let it pass us by.

“It will be great for the local youth to become involved with the football club and gain an education in the process.”
