Patience pleases Bentley after Morecambe’s stunning comeback at Yeovil

The Shrimps saw goals from Harry Cornick and Omar Sowunmi hand The Glovers a 2-0 half-time lead despite a red card for Shaun Jeffers.

But Bentley’s side roared back against 10 men in the second half with Aaron Wildig, Andy Fleming, Lee Molyneux and Kevin Ellison on target for a third win in a row.

The Shrimps boss said: “I’m disappointed with how we started and the goals we conceded, we’ve got to tighten up there.

“But we’ve got goals and creativity in the side and we managed the game well in the second half.

“We were patient, we moved the ball round, we dictated the play and we made better decisions than in the first half and ran out worthy winners in the end.

“If we were at home I could have understood people’s frustrations.

“People would be crying out for us to get it forward quickly but the key today was being patient.

“We starved them of the ball. If someone hasn’t had the ball for five or 10 minutes they can lose their shape and you can get in behind or round the sides.

“That’s what we did today, we worked the goals well.”

It was another remarkable away day for the 104 Shrimps fans who made the trip, many of whom would have seen Bentley’s men see a three-goal lead slip at Portsmouth in the 3-3 draw last month.

He said: “At the end of day we’ve won games and I think we’re the third leading goal scorers in the league.

“We’ve just got to keep going. It’s entertaining but what’s scary is I think we’ve got more in our locker.

“We can tighten up at the back but we’ve working extremely hard on creating goals and maybe we’re overcommmitting at times.

“You’ve got to get the balance right.”

Opposing boss Paul Sturrock was certainly impressed with what he saw, tipping The Shrimps for the play-offs in his post-match press conference.

Bentley said: “We must be doing something right because that comes from someone who knows the game inside out.

“We’re only little old Morecambe and we’re one of the favourites to go down but we’re doing okay and long may it continue.”
