Billy Akrigg scored the lone goal for City, whilst a late second half penalty won the game for the visitors.

City enjoyed the majority of possession during the 90 minutes and will have been disappointed not to have created more chances.

Despite seeing less of the ball it was the visitors who struck first on 23 minutes. A defence splitting ball saw Ryan Williams in on goal but the striker couldn’t beat Mike Hale in the City goal. The rebound fell kindly to Ross Armstrong who converted from a tight angle to make it 1-0.

Lancaster had to wait until just before half time to equalise. Good link up between Ryan Winder and Sam Bailey saw the former Bolton midfielder cross to find the boot of Akrigg to volley home from ten yards.

The second half became scrappy and void of chances as the fog closed in and visibility started to fall. Winder poked a half chance straight at hosts keeper Brad Dixon, with City guilty of being shot-shy throughout the second period.

The game was decided 14 minutes from time and against the run of play. Hale could only parry a speculative shot from Danny Patterson, and the City stopper brought down forward Chris Wood trying to tuck away the rebound.

Wood dispatched the penalty neatly into the bottom left corner to give Ossett the late lead. A late cameo appearance from Trevor Sinclair couldn’t rescue a point for Darren Peacock’s side, with a huge performance now needed against Salford City on Saturday to keep the playoff places in sight.
