Morecambe Ladies’ star striker is hoping her goals can fire her side to league and cup success in 2013.
Megan Doherty’s impressive strike rate is one of the main reasons the Shrimps girls are undefeated in the league this year and have reached the third round of the FA Cup.
This year was the first time ever they’d reached the second round, let alone the next stage, with a trip to Coventry, three leagues above them, the reward at the beginning of February.
The 23-year-old who lives in Scale Hall said: “It’s going brilliantly at the moment.
“We’re all really looking forward to the Coventry game.
“We obviously want to win but it’s going to be difficult. They’ve got a good team but we’re playing well and anything is possible.”
The cup run isn’t the ladies’ only concern as they look to make it back-to-back promotions and they are going about it the right way in the North West Womens Regional league Division North One, with seven wins and two draws in their opening nine games.
Doherty, who scored all five in a recent 5-0 win over Preston North End and once netted 11 goals in a single game, said: “As far as the league goes we’re definitely looking to get promoted.
“I’ve scored a few goals this season and just want to keep scoring more.”
Morecambe Ladies travel to Coventry in the Women’s FA Cup third round on February 3.
