Morecambe Ladies’ unbeaten run continued on Saturday with a 4-0 away win in the North East against Norton & Stockton Ancients LFC.
It took under two minutes for the Ladies to take the lead, keeper Jodie Woodburn punted the ball forward and Emma Kay brought the ball down on the half way line.
She turned her marker, ran straight for goal and slipped it past Laura Ellison in the Norton goal to make it 1-0.
Amy Wills almost scored on her debut after meeting a corner with a volley which Kate McGuire cleared off the line for the home side.
Morecambe seemed to take their foot off the gas in the second half but the turning point came with a touch of controversy at the halfway point.
Morecambe’s Danielle Pye floated in a free-kick, Becky Whittingham headed on for Emma Kay to chase but she was bundled over on the edge of the box.
Both the linesman and referee flagged for a penalty and Whittingham put the penalty away to make it 2-0 to Morecambe.
From the kick off Norton pushed forward and as Pye intercepted the ball was moved to Laura Callis and onto Lucy Coppard.
Driving forward she found Jenny Keane on the left who with one touch put it into the path of Kay and the ball was slipped under the keeper to make it 3-0.
Sophie Fish made it four late on when she fired a shot in under the bar to complete Morecambe’s scoring in what was a convincing victory despite having to play an under-strength team.
