North Lancashire League: Seven out of seven for Caton United

Premier Division leaders Caton United were made to work to keep up their perfect start to the new Baines Bagguley Penhale North Lancashire and District League season on Saturday.

Goals from Liam Moffatt, Guy Spence and the eventual winner from Joe Bouskill saw them prevail 3-2 at Arnside as they made it seven wins out of seven.

James Thornton and James Kirkham were on target for the Cumbrians who have made a stuttering start.

Caton’s nearest challengers Cartmel went down 3-0 at home to perennial title challengers Carnforth Rangers.

Aaron Hoyle’s goal separated the sides after an even first period and the second half was just couple of minutes old when Damien Murphy doubled Carnforth’s lead.

Murphy’s second then ended the game as a contest as Rangers moved up to third, five points behind Cartmel.

Lancaster Rovers’ promising early form is deserting them at the moment with Bowerham triumphing 3-0.

Aaron Bleakley, John Foxcroft and Tim Long were on target as Bowerham won for the second time this season, profiting on some sloppy Rovers play.

Mayfield United gained revenge for an earlier defeat to Galgate as they came from behind to win 5-1.

Lee Clarke put Galgate in front early on with Rikki Ball levelling things up just before the break.

The second half was one-way traffic with Ball adding three more to take his tally to four as Jordan Sparks scored the other.

In division one free-scoring Westgate Wanderers hit Carnforth Rangers Reserves for six for the second time this season, winning 6-3 to extend their lead at the top to four points.

Ryan Worrall, Asa Stone, Stuart Gardner (two), goal-a-game Steffan Dixon and Kevin Armistead were on target for Westgate with a Joe Burchill strike and two from Jake Crowther replying for Carnforth.

Second in the table Boys Club dropped two valuable points as they drew 0-0 at TIC Dynamos of Overton and Middleton.

Caton United Reserves completely outplayed Millhead in their 3-1 win.

Veteran Mark Burkitt rolled back the years with a fine header to open the scoring before Sonni Thompson completed a fine team move for the second.

The third goal was a good individual goal from another youngster Callum Connorton. Jamie Nicholls was on target for Millhead.

The game of the day however was between two promoted sides AFC Moorlands and Freehold who drew 5-5 in a fierce derby game.

Hosts Moorlands led 4-1 at the break with a crazy second half ending with honours even in a 10-goal thriller.

Ryan Greenwood opening the scoring for the home side before Nick Johns equalised.

Moorlands took control however with Greenwood taking his and his side’s tally to four at the interval.

Freehold then rang the changes and they paid dividends with sub Kieran Harwood scoring twice and Richard Simister also on target to make it 4-4.

The visitors could sense victory but it was Greenwood who got his fifth to make it 5-4 to the hosts.

There was one final twist as Liam Morgan made it 5-5 late on as a pulsating game came to an end.
