North Lancashire League: Caton's perfect season continues

It was a decent game of football played by two committed teams.

The Rovers side had the early chances but could not find the back of the net.

Defending champions Caton took the lead against the run of play when a long ball was headed into the net by Adam Garnett his first for the club.

Garnett doubled the lead with a glorious low drive into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance.

The Rovers had as much possession as Caton but their missed chances cost them dearly as Callum Connerton scored the goal of the game for Caton when he smashed in a volley from 25 yards.

Caton made it 4-0 when they broke out of defence and a long pass to Guy Spence whose speed took him past three defenders and in a one-on-one situation with the keeper he put the ball into the net.

In Division One, Carnforth Rangers Reserves entertained AFC Moorlands in a high scoring game at Quarry Park.

Carnforth’s football and work rate was slightly better than the Moorlands side and it told as they scored six well worked goals scored by Robbie Mooring (2), Alex Benson, Jacob Robertson, Richard Bell and Joe Burchill.

In between the Carnforth goals AFC Moorlands managed to score three through, John Salisbury, Joe Garnett and the goal of the game from veteran Kevin Robinson.

Boys’ Club got back to winning ways when they travelled to play Ingleton Reserves and came away winning 4-2 in a competitive game.

Jack Braithwaite, Matthew Smith and a brace from leading scorer James Short scored for Boys’ Club.

In reply Milton Mendes and John Kelsall scored the Ingleton goals.

In the Eric Wilson Senior Challenge Cup third round, Storeys entertained and beat Preesall and Pilling 3-1.

Storeys took the lead when a defender slipped in the mud allowing Jonathon Pedder to score at the second attempt from inside the six-yard box.

Storeys doubled their lead when from a breakaway Pedder scored his second with only the keeper to beat.

Storeys went into an unassailable 3-0 lead when Jake Dixon scored again from another breakaway before Pilling scored with the last kick of the game, Ashworth finishing well.
