North Lancashire League: Caton see off Ingleton to reach round three

In the Eric Wilson Senior Challenge Cup second round the eagerly awaited cup match between Caton United and Ingleton finally took place at the sixth attempt, with Caton progressing after a 6-3 win.

The game got off to a flying start when Ingleton took a 2-0 lead with well worked goals from Joe Towers and Dan Tyrer.

Caton reduced the arrears with a Liam Moffatt shot and then went into overdrive and took a 6-2 lead after Joe Bouskill (2), Liam Jeffries and Tom Lund scored.

In the last couple of minutes Ingleton grabbed a third when Alex Hartley scored from the penalty spot.

In round three Caton will be away to Cartmel and District.

In the third round Division One side AFC Moorlands entertained high-flying Premier Division side Highgrove hoping they could pull off a shock, but they suffered a 10-0 thrashing.

Their hopes were dashed when they went 1-0 behind after conceding a penalty in the opening 60 seconds when Dan Broadley was brought down from behind.

Broadley took the penalty and scored with ease, sending the keeper the wrong way.

Worse was to follow after Jake Hope and then Harrison Burke scored inside the opening eight minutes to put the game beyond the Moorlands side with still 82 minutes to play.

In the Baines Bagguley Penhale North Lancashire Football League Premier Di Carnforth Rangers moved up into second place after a comfortable 3-0 win over a struggling Bowerham side.

Carnforth are in great form and with Cameron Holmes they had the match winner as the Bowerham defence was powerless to stop him completing a very good hat-trick.

Bentham started brightly at home to Galgate but goals from Charles Andrews and Jack Walling saw them fall 2-0 behind early on.

Bentham responded well and Jack Johnson scored a good goal but another lapse in defence cost Bentham a third goal when Liam Anderton made it 3-1.

Bentham again got back into the game when Chris Edwards slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 3-2.

Bentham continued to press for an equaliser but they were caught short in defence which allowed Galgate to counter attack which saw Elliott Greaves score their fourth goal to put the game beyond Bentham who remain anchored at the bottom.
