North Lancashire League: Carnforth on cloud nine as Caton continue perfect start

In the Baines Bagguley Penhale North Lancashire Football League Premier Division Carnforth Rangers hammered Bentham 9-0 away from home.

Bentham got off to a good start and for the opening 20 minutes were the better team.

However, two silly defensive mistakes cost them dearly which Carnforth capitalised on with Cameron Holmes and Bryon Nixon making Bentham pay.

From then on it was all downhill for Bentham as goals rained in from all angles thanks to a second from Holmes, Nixon with a further two to complete his hat-trick, Phil Meeks, Aaron Jones, Jamie Durnan and Aaron Hoyle.

Caton maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with an away win at Storeys.

Christian Sawacki gave Caton the lead before David Leslie levelled the scores as Storeys got themselves back into the game.

In the 89th minute Storeys had a chance to take all three points but the effort was missed and Caton broke out of defence with Mambwe Chilfuyra leading the charge and after some nice passing it was Chilfuyra who broke Storeys’ hearts with the last gasp winner

In Division One a titanic game was played on Slyne Road between AFC Moorlands and Heysham, with 10 goals in total being scored.

After 80 minutes of play the Moorlands side were leading by 4-3 and at this stage Heysham decided to change things round to try and score a fourth and equalising goal.

However, it backfired on them when Moorlands scored a further three to run out 7-3 winners with goals from Jack Salisbury, Joe Garnett, Ryan Greenwood (2) and a super hat-trick from Jamie Townley.

Heysham’s replies came from Jamie McGowan (2) and the goal of the game from Jay Mason.

Morecambe Royals beat Ingleton at Salt Ayre thanks to a goal from Aaron Cross, his free kick looped over the wall and into the top corner of the net to give his team a 1-0 win.

Ingleton were the better side in the second half but Ryan Busby in the Royals’ goal managed to keep them out with a heroic performance.

In the Eric Wilson Senior Challenge Cup Highgrove beat Mayfield United 3-1.

Highgrove played much the better football and fully deserved to win after Lee Richardson, Callum Rogers and Joe Martin had scored.

Rikki Ball scored a consolation for a well beaten Mayfield United side.
