Morecambe sealed the double over Newport with a hard-earned victory at Rodney Parade on Saturday.
A goal from Jack Redshaw after just eight minutes was enough to earn the Shrimps their second win in three games and keep up their perfect record against The Exiles with a fourth victory out of four.
Redshaw gave the Shrimps a perfect start with a fine strike, as the front man scored for the second game running.
A long ball forward dissected the Newport defence and gave Redshaw a free run on goal and the striker made no mistake with a sweetly struck left-foot shot that beat Chris Day low to his left.
Morecambe continued to press with Ryan Williams drilling a 25-yard free kick well over before the home side began to find a second gear.
Midfielder Mark Byrne flashed a shot from outside the box well wide before Jan Klukowski volleyed over after being found by Ryan Jackson’s cutback.
Morecambe looked sharp on the break and Redshaw went close to a second on 42 minutes with a shot from the edge of the area that forced Day into a neat save low to his left.
Newport dominated possession in the second but only created one moment to worry the Morecambe defence when they had a goal controversially disallowed on 57 minutes.
Robbie Willmott curled on a cross from the left-hand side that seemed to evade everyone and end up in the back of the Morecambe net but the officials ruled that Shaun Jeffers got the final touch and the goal was ruled out for offside.
Chances were rare for the visitors from there as Mark Hughes produced two vital blocks before Byrne headed a late chance wide.
It was Morecambe who finished on the attack with Kevin Ellison forcing Day into a neat save with virtually the last touch of the ball.
