Paul Mullin scored four as Morecambe made it a hat-trick of pre-season wins with a thumping victory at Nantwich Town on Tuesday night.
The striker bagged all his goals in the first half of a dominant display against the Evo-Stik Premier Division side.
The clinical strikes came in the middle on an early opener from Kevin Ellison and a late sixth for Aaron Wildig, his third in three pre-season games.
Ellison opened the scoring for Jim Bentley’s side after six minutes at the Weaver Stadium.
Jamie Devitt’s dink over the top wasn’t dealt with by Krystian Burzynski with the ball rebounding to Ellison who had the simple task of putting the ball into the empty net from 10 yards.
Liam Shotton then put a free header over the bar when he should have tested Barry Roche before the Shrimps doubled their lead with another soft goal on 10 minutes.
Ellison’s initial shot was well saved by Burzynski but the visitors didn’t clear their lines, the ball being offered back in to Mullin who made no mistake with a clinical low finish from 12 yards.
The former Liverpool youngster had his second and Morecambe’s third on 21 minutes, converting from the spot after Ellison had been brought down by a clumsy Josh Gordon challenge.
It was nearly a 14-minute hat-trick for Mullin but Burzynski produced a fine save at full stretch to keep out a shot that looked destined for the top corner.
Ellison then headed just wide as Morecambe attacked seemingly at will.
Nantwich’s best opening came from a Shrimps error, Shotton pounced on a short Parrish backpass on the half hour and rounded Roche but went too wide to fire in a meaningful shot.
But it was the visitors who were dominating, Fleming seeing a shot blocked by an on-rushing Burzynski before Devitt’s tame shot when in on the left side of the area was easily saved.
Mullin had his hat-trick on 39 minutes and it was the best of the lot, the striker lifting a lob over Burzynski from 20 yards.
The hosts nearly had a goal back just before the break but Ben Mills just couldn’t get on the end of Matty Kosylo’s in-swinging cross.
It was five on the stroke of half-time, Ellison nodding down Andy Fleming’s cross for Mullin to round Burzynski and score his fourth.
Nantwich improved after the break and had the first opening of the second half but Steve Jones could only fire wide from 15 yards after a neat move.
A long ball from Aaron McGowan then found Devitt in on goal but under pressure his weak effort was saved by replacement ‘keeper Terry Smith.
Alex Kenyon was the next to go close for the Shrimps but his looping header from Devitt’s corner landed on the roof of the net.
As substitutes disrupted the flow of the game it was Morecambe who continued to have the chances, one of the replacements Lee Molyneux firing a fierce shot narrowly wide.
Nantwich pressed in the latter stages but it was the Shrimps who got a sixth seven minutes from time, Wildig converting from close range after good work from trialist Luke Pritchard on the left.
