Saturday’s 3-0 win against Colchester United left the Shrimps sixth in the table at the midway point of the campaign.

Going into Tuesday’s trip to Exeter City, Adams’ players are only four points adrift of the top two – and with two games in hand.

“I think we are on 38 points now,” the Morecambe manager said.

“That puts us in sixth position, it is a very good points total and we have a game or two in hand on some teams.

“We are halfway into the season and, over the years, that points total has been there towards the end of the season.

“We are at the halfway point and have got ourselves in a very good position.”

What is also notable from the league table isn’t just Morecambe’s overall position – but also their goal difference.

They are the only side in the top 10 to have conceded more than they have scored.

That is the legacy of missed opportunities, as well as the heavy defeats against Cambridge United (5-0) and Crawley Town (4-0).

“We have had a couple of games where it has been difficult for us earlier in the season,” Adams said.

“The goal difference sets us back but we’re heading in the right direction.”
