Morecambe travel to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup first round

This morning’s draw pitted the Shrimps against their League Two counterparts with the match set to be played on the weekend of September 5-6.

Last season saw Morecambe knocked out in the second round at Burton Albion following victory on penalties against Mansfield Town at the first stage.

Derek Adams’ players will also discover the identity of their second opponents for the new season this afternoon.

The group stage draw of the EFL Trophy is due to take place at 1.30pm with the opening game scheduled for September 8 or 9, the midweek prior to the start of the EFL League Two season on Saturday, September 12.

The Shrimps already know they are in a group with Salford City and Rochdale with just the identity of the invited Category One Academy side to be revealed.

That will be one of Aston Villa, Leeds United, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United or Wolverhampton Wanderers.
