The 21-year-old was the club’s fifth arrival last summer as Shrimps’ boss Derek Adams rebuilt his squad for the new campaign.

He made his debut in the season-opening Carabao Cup win at Grimsby Town, the first of 17 appearances in league and cup.

Newcastle made the announcement on their club website, saying: “Newcastle United have recalled Tom Allan, Jake Turner and Jack Young to the club’s Under-23 side following loan spells with EFL clubs.

“Allan returns from League One side Accrington Stanley, while goalkeeper Turner and midfielder Young have been recalled from League Two sides Morecambe and Tranmere Rovers respectively.

“All three will return to the Newcastle United Academy to rejoin Chris Hogg’s Under-23 squad.”

Turner’s first taste of senior football had its ups and downs with three clean sheets as well as costly errors.

The last of those came at the end of November when, having twice been beaten from distance at Salford City in midweek, a mistake in the FA Cup victory against Solihull Moors four days later saw him replaced at half-time by Mark Halstead.

He has since gone on to become the starting keeper, though Adams had laid down the gauntlet to Turner last month.

Speaking at the time, the Morecambe boss said: “For any player, any young player as well, it’s about development.

“Development is a big word in youth football. It’s about dealing with disappointment, playing, recovering and enabling them to go again.

“That development has to be used in the way that’s best for the individual.

“Let’s not forget, he’s played nearly 20 games this season which is great for a young keeper.

“He’s out on his first loan from Newcastle and he’s had fantastic experience so far.”
