Morecambe’s spending on agents revealed

MORECAMBE FC spent more than £16,000 on agents’ fees during the 2010/2011 season.

The Shrimps spent £16,035 on agents, the seventh most in League 2, according to a report released by the Football League.

The figure is down from the previous season when the club spent £16,960.

The money was spent on 37 transactions including, 16 new player registrations or transfers, three contract renewals, six cancelled contracts and 12 loans.

Seven League 2 clubs, Accrington Stanley, Barnet, Cheltenham Town, Crewe Alexandra, Macclesfield Town, Stevenage and Stockport County, spent nothing on agents.

The biggest spenders in League 2 were Shrewsbury, who committed £43,084 to agents.

In total League 2 clubs spent £221,525, down from £366,781 the season before. The 2009/2010 season did however include the £246,483 spent by the Notts County of Sven Goran-Eriksson and Sol Campbell.

Football league clubs committed a total of £16.7 million on agents during the season, with Championship clubs accounting for nearly 85 per cent of the figure.
