An experienced Morecambe Reserves side were held to a 1-1 draw at Wrexham on Monday afternoon.

Tony Diagne gave the Shrimps the lead on the stroke of half-time but the hosts equalised against the run of play 20 minutes from time after Kevin Thornton finished off a counter attacking move.

The visitors were littered with first-team players with new signing Shaun Beeley playing the full 90 minutes for the Shrimps on the right wing while Ryan Williams made a welcome return to action following his recent injury problems.

Andy Wright, Jack Sampson and Padraig Amond also all featured having been unused substitutes in the abandoned game at Accrington Stanley.

Stewart Drummond’s visitors started the brighter and took a deserved lead five minutes before the break with big French defender Diagne hooking the ball home from 12 yards.

New boy Beeley went close with a long-range effort early in the second half but it was Thornton who got the game’s next goal to level things up.

Morecambe nearly snatched victory five minutes from time but Joslain Mayebi expertly tipped over Joe McGee’s shot from 30 yards.

The game at Colliers Park was due to be played in Morecambe but was switched to preserve the Globe Arena surface ahead of Burton Albion’s visit to the resort on Saturday.

Morecambe: Kitchen, McGowan, Bowman, McGee, Doyle, Diagne, Beeley, Wright, Sampson, Williams, Amond. Subs: Watson, Dunleavy, Naylor, Newton, Lewis, Woods.
