Elsewhere in the club’s development centre, the Shrimps’ futsal side lost their latest North West League 1 game 8-4 to Blackburn at the Leeds Futsal Arena.

Blackburn opened the scoring before sub Tyler Burton levelled things up.

Further pressure from the Shrimps followed, but they were again caught on the break and Blackburn equalised just on the stroke of half-time to make it 2-2.

Rovers went ahead at the start of the second half but Liam Caprani slotted home to make it 3-3.

The thrilling game kept on twisting and turning with Boland then giving the Shrimps the lead.

Lacking in numbers Morecambe began to tire though and two goals in three minutes saw Blackburn go in front.

The Shrimps pressed to get back into the game but were caught on the counter with the final score flattering Rovers.

Coach Holly Farquharson said: “We were short of personnel today but the lads worked really hard and deserved to get something from the game.

“The extra numbers in the Rovers squad gave them that physical edge, which was telling in the second half, but I can’t fault our players for their effort and attitude.”
