Unless a midweek game is arranged at short notice, that was Morecambe’s final pre-season outing ahead of the Carabao Cup tie at Grimsby Town on Saturday.

Speaking to the club website after the final whistle at the weekend, Adams said: “We had a good run out. They (Everton) have been really hospitable to us.

“The players have had another good workout and we’re looking forward to the next game in the League Cup against Grimsby.

“Some of the players put on a really good show, passed the ball well and the fitness levels are looking excellent.

“The surface was slower than our surface at home and we were playing with a different ball.

“That all contributes to learning and the players are benefiting from that.

“They are a fantastic group, they are working extremely hard; we’ve had a full week’s training, then they have come in and played today.”
