The 26-year-old striker follows Stephen Hendrie, Harry Davis and Nathaniel Knight-Percival in joining the Shrimps ahead of the 2020/21 season.

McAlinden told the club website: “The gaffer (Derek Adams) is really enthusiastic about the season and I’m looking forward to getting going.

“As a player, I like to get in behind and make good runs for others and hopefully I can create a lot of chances and score a lot of goals.

“Last season was a good one for me and I’m looking forward to getting back into the League and kicking on again.”

Having started his career at Wolves, McAlinden also spent time on loan at Shrewsbury Town, Fleetwood Town and Crawley Town during his time at Molineux.

Moves to Exeter City and Cheltenham Town followed, including further loan spells at Brackley Town and Kidderminster Harriers, before he joined FC Halifax Town at the start of the 2019/20 season.

He netted 10 times in the first half of the campaign before joining Stockport County in January this year, only for the curtailed season to bring his time with the Hatters to an early conclusion.

McAlinden continued: “I was at Wolves from the age of seven to 22 and made my debut. I had a few loan moves and had two seasons at Exeter with two play-off finals before a move to Cheltenham.

“It’s been the strangest summer I’ve known. It’s been really different for all players so I’m delighted to get things done early and I snatched the gaffer’s hand off when he offered me a deal here and I’m looking forward to getting going.”

Shrimps’ boss Derek Adams added: “I’ve watched Liam’s progress since he was at Wolves.

“He has had some good spells. He is left-sided and can score goals from nothing and adds good competition for places up front.”
