Morecambe Ladies kicked off 2016 with a 3-2 defeat at home to Leeds on Sunday.

Bridie Hannon opened the scoring for the visitors and Leeds soon doubled their advantage with Hannon blasting home her second.

The Shrimps hit back however with Hannah Paling going close before she reduced the arrears to one by converting Emily Hutton’s cross from the right.

Paling would again come close before the half was out but The Shrimps didn’t have to wait long for their leveller. Three minutes after the interval Becky Whittingham put a ball through to Emma Kay who fired under Colissa Baines.

Morecambe then had their most impressive period of play but with 10 minutes to play hearts were broken as Rachel Ackroyd fired in the winner from distance.
