Morecambe Ladies suffered back to back defeats to Chester-le-Street Ladies last week, as they had the task of playing two games in the space of three days.

The first game was played at Lancaster and Morecambe College on Easter Sunday, and it was the visitors who looked the sharper from the off and took an early lead through striker Nicole Goundry-Havery.

Yasmin Swarbirck then hit back for the Shrimps and shortly after the break she struck again with a brilliant finish to give the home side the lead. Louise Gibbins was then unfortunate to give away a penalty for a handball which was dispatched by Brogan Prudhoe.

As the game drew to a close Goundry Havery again found herself unmarked and shot past Doherty in the Morecambe goal to give the visitors a late but warranted victory.

The two sides met again last Tuesday with Morecambe making the long journey across to the North East.

Although it had been a long trip, the ladies seemed spritely in the first few minutes with a couple of half chances being created. However, the optimism was short lived when after a communication malfunction between keeper and defender, Goundery–Havery was left to nod the ball into an empty net.

Shortly after Morecambe had several opportunities and clear penalty claims waived away by the referee, after another defensive mix-up Prudhoe scored from distance against the run of play to put the home side two up.

Yasmin Swarbrick scored with a low strike but despite a late push Morecambe weren’t able to grab an equaliser.
