Morecambe equalised in the 23rd minute with Whittingham scoring directly from a corner kick as Mossley ‘keeper Emily Hallam lost the cross in the strong wind.

Six minutes later Nick Barrett’s visitors took the lead with Hannah Williamson setting up Sophie Fish in space who took a touch before sending in a shot which bobbled over the luckless Hallam for 2-1.

It was soon 3-1 with Hallam misjudging the bounce from a long Callis cross into the area as it looped over the ‘keeper and in.

Mossley were in the ascendancy for large parts of the second half but just had Paige Lindsay’s volley to show for their efforts.
