Morecambe Ladies saw a two-goal lead slip as they went down 4-2 at Leeds United LFC on Sunday.

The Shrimpettes raced out of the blocks with goals from Hannah Paling and Emma Kay inside the first five minutes.

But that was as good as things got for Nick Barrett’s side.

Leeds came back into things and pulled a goal back through captain Emma Bentley on 33 minutes with her shot from distance beating Jodie Woodburn.

The hosts at Garforth FC were level in first-half injury time, Rachel Ackroyd latching onto a through ball and beating Woodburn.

Half-time came at a good time for The Shrimps but Leeds wasted no time in going in front after the break with Zoe Doherty catching replacement ‘keeper Beth Fisher off her line.

The visitors improved but couldn’t find a way back into an end-to-end game with Leeds making sure of the win in injury time.

Laura Callis brought down Shelbey Morris in the area with Bentley converting the spot kick.
