Morecambe Ladies moved up to second in the North West Women’s Regional League Premier Division after making hard work of victory against Wigan on Sunday.
The game was switched to Lancaster & Morecambe College’s 3G pitch to ensure it beat the freezing temperatures and snow with the home side looking to continue their unbeaten record in the league.
A first-half strike from Hannah Paling was cancelled out by a wonder strike from Wigan with the first 45 minutes ending 1-1.
After the break Morecambe dominated and Paling got her second before the prolific Megan Doherty added a third to confirm the victory.
More chances came for the Shrimps ladies and with a little more luck the scoreline would have been far more emphatic, but this win keeps up the pressure on Blackpool, who top the table by one point.
Next week Morecambe host Mossley Hill in the league cup before their big trip to Coventry in the Women’s FA Cup third round on February 3.
