Rovers took the lead when a clearance across goal was turned in by the perfectly-positioned centre forward Saffron Jordan, and Blackburn went 2-0 up just before half-time thanks to an excellent shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Rovers made a quick start to the second half, Emma Rankin placing the ball low into the right hand corner, and Nat Fenton pounced on a loose ball, took control and looped her shot over the keeper to make it 4-0.

* Morecambe Ladies Reserves won 3-0 against newly-promoted North Lancs District DC LFC at the weekend.

Morecambe took the lead when Amy Cambray won the ball back and laid it off to Nicola Conway, who managed to turn her marker and play a lovely throughball for Alicia Houghton to run on to and place past the keeper.

Morecambe doubled their lead directly from a corner, set piece specialist Gina Pendlebury put in a deep cross that looped over everyone to sneak in at the far post.

A turning point in the match came when Kayleigh Young was brought down on the edge of the Morecambe box with defender Perry avoiding a card – the resulting North Lancs free kick sailed just over the crossbar.

Morecambe then added a third goal – striker Conway unleashed an absolute screamer from 30 yards to seal the win.
