Morecambe are confident of completing a deal for versatile Accrington Stanley striker Padraig Amond.

The 25-year-old Irishman is currently training with the Shrimps and will feature in their first pre-season friendly against Burnley on Tuesday night.

Shrimps boss Jim Bentley said: “We’re interested in signing him.

“He’s impressed in training and we hope to get something sorted in the next couple of weeks.

“He’s a good lad who knows all about this league and has scored goals at this level.”

Amond would become summer signing number six at the Globe Arena following the arrivals of Tony Diagne, Marcus Marshall, Alex Kenyon, Jack Sampson and new captain Mark Hughes.

The forward started his career with Shamrock Rovers before moving to Sligo Rovers.

He arrived at Stanley first on loan, before signing a permanent deal in August 2012, after a brief spell in Portugal with Pacos de Ferreira.

Tuesday night’s game against the Clarets will see the whole squad get a run out including trialist right back Luke Denson.

The former Tranmere youngster has played for AFC Fylde, Colwyn Bay and Chester.
