Morecambe FC’s futsal side suffered a 16-1 defeat at the hands of Blackburn Rovers in North West League 1 on Wednesday.
With the Morecambe squad depleted through injury it was always going to be a challenge to match a Rovers side who have been in good form.
Blackburn came out of the blocks sharply and proceeded to pepper the Morecambe goal keeping Kyle Burgan busy.
It was not long before the Shrimps’ resistance was broken and as they fell behind any semblance of tactical discipline melted away. Blackburn continued on the front foot and took in a 3-0 lead at the break.
The second half continued in the same vein, with Burgan endeavouring to stem the tide but struggling as he was left exposed by his defence.
Blackburn added 13 more goals, with the only response from Morecambe coming from a Liam Caprani penalty.
Coach Holly Stringfellow said: “We were just not good enough today and the result reflects that.
“Blackburn outplayed us in every department but they also showed a tactical discipline and togetherness that our players can learn from.”
The next fixture sees Morecambe play Preston North End on May 7.
Morecambe: Kyle Burgan, Jordan Smith, Luke Whitaker, Liam Caprani, Zak Cannar.
