Towards the half hour mark, a cracking shot rattled the Morecambe bar before Burnley forward Georgia Payton opened the scoring when a ball came over the top and with some indecision in the home defence, with her left foot, she lobbed the ball over the keeper.

The lead didn’t last long though as from the kick-off Morecambe pushed forward down the right and the ball came inside to Nic Conway and with time and space fired over the Burnley keeper to equalise.

With five minutes to go until the interval Jen Marsden won a corner for Morecambe.

From the corner Jayne Roper found herself in space and headed home to give her team a 2-1 half time lead.

Morecambe increased their lead halfway through the second half.

Grace Marsden’s run down the right stretched the Burnley defence and her cross found Nic Conway, her first effort was blocked and fell to Jen Marsden who scrambled the ball back and Conway stuck her second shot home to earn her team a 3-1 victory.
