Morecambe can introduce extra substitutes this season

After consultation with clubs, the EFL board has agreed to let clubs field an increased number of replacements in matches starting from this Friday.
The relevant regulation has been amended so that clubs in League One and Two can still name up to seven substitutes but with five permitted to play.

Hide AdIn the case of Championship clubs, they can name as many as nine substitutes with a maximum of five allowed to come on.
Five subs were allowed once football resumed over the summer, only for English domestic football to revert back to three for the start of the 2020/21 season.
An increase in injuries during a crowded fixture list has seen some managers call for a rethink, especially with the season needing to finish as scheduled in May for the postponed Euro 2020.
However, Morecambe boss Derek Adams was against the idea of changing the rules.

Hide AdSpeaking last week, he said: “I don’t think it can come in this season.
“It’s already started, the rules are already in place and we can’t be changing the rules at this point.”
The game’s law-making body, the International Football Association Board announced in July that the five substitutes rule would be extended into 2020-21 - but that it would be up to individual competitions whether or not they adopted it.
